Kathy Castor (FL14) was joined by Ernest Coney, CEO and President of Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc (CDC of Tampa), Wanda Jennings of EPA Region 4 and other leaders to announce a $200,000 grant for the CDC through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grant.

Today, U.S. Representative Kathy Castor (FL14), Tampa business owner Ivan Montoya, Solar Axiom’s Elio Muller and Tampa Bay Solar’s Steve Rutherford called on Congress to extend the federal solar tax credit by the end of the year. Castor highlighted the significant cost savings for small businesses like the Montoya Family Maaco Paint and Collision Repair in Town ‘N Country, which has nearly eliminated its entire monthly electric bill and draws almost all its power from clean energy after installing a solar rooftop .

Castor, Tampa Bay AARP support legislation to lower drug prices for Floridians

Today, U.S. Rep Kathy Castor (FL14), Tampa Bay AARP, JDRF and local residents highlighted the urgent need to lower prescription drug prices for Floridians. Castor announced that she is cosponsoring the Lower Drug Costs Now Act (HR 3) that would provide much-needed relief for Florida seniors and families who depend on medication whether they are covered by Medicare, private insurance or are uninsured. The bill will allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices for prescription drugs and extend the lower costs to families who rely on private insurance. Currently, an estimated 98,000 uninsured individuals in Tampa Bay pay higher prices for prescription drugs than patients in other countries.
