Rep. Castor Celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with Message of Solutions for Lower Costs, Good-Paying Jobs and Safer Communities

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month across the Tampa area to tout solutions for the economic squeeze, particularly the Inflation Reduction Act and H.Res. 1353 relating to Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrating the heritage and culture of Latinos in the United States and the immense contributions of Latinos to the United States. Castor knows District 14 is vibrant due to its diverse culture and strong Hispanic community.

Tampa Bay neighbors shared their interest in solutions for more affordable housing, rent, health care and jobs including the American Dream and Promise Act. She held town halls, public meetings, and roundtables to bring together legal experts and community resources to highlight the contributions of immigrants to Tampa Bay’s history and the region’s economic success.

  1. Annual American Dream Awards – Each year, Castor holds an event to honor five distinguished immigrants in FL14 for their heroic and inspiring stories, including Frank Diaz from Cuba and Carmen LoBue from Ecuador. Read about their inspiring stories here. Photos are available here.

  2.  Latino Health Tour with US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra – With the historic passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, Latino seniors will now experience lower costs due to more affordable health care if they are Medicare beneficiaries. This game changing law will decrease the health disparity gap between Hispanic communities and white communities. Photos are available here.

  3.  Tampa’s 34th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration – As a display of culture, the Tampa Theatre hosted a celebration filled with music, dancing and local leaders committing their efforts to work and support the Hispanic communities in Tampa at the local, national and federal levels of government. Photos are available here.

  4. Hispanic Heritage Celebration with Town N’ Country Seniors: To close out the month of celebrations, Castor attended a dance class with Hispanic seniors to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. With lots of music, colors, and dancing, Castor joined the crowd to celebrate the great contributions of the Hispanic community. Photos are available here.

Castor will continue to fight for Tampa area neighbors and small businesses every day in Congress by focusing on lower costs, better paying jobs and safer communities - always people over politics.
