Democrats lead discharge petition to force vote on student loan debt refinancing bill

Workers with skills in transportation and logistics are in high demand in Florida, with more than 50,000 jobs expected in these fields through 2020. To meet the demand, Hillsborough Community College has been building out a regional Advanced Transportation Technology Center (ATTC), a program that will now be completed through a $1 million grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co.—the largest-ever corporate contribution to the College.

Today on Match Day, an annual rite of passage when medical school graduates across the country learn where they have been matched for their graduate medical education (GME), U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor announced new legislation that would provide federal support to help train an additional 15,000 resident physicians while introducing accountability and transparency initiatives for institutions receiving Medicare funding for physician training. Training Tomorrow’s Doctors Today Act, which has broad-based support from numerous physician, hospital and other groups representing both primary and specialty care physicians, was introduced yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kathy Castor (FL14) applauded yesterday’s passage of the bipartisan education reform bill in the U.S. House of Representative yesterday and encouraged Pinellas and Hillsborough School Districts to renew their focus on the achievement gap. The Every Student Succeeds Act replaces No Child Left Behind, which was overdue for reauthorization and reform. Democrats fought off radical cuts proposed by the GOP that would have cut $437 million from Florida public schools over the coming years.
