U.S. Rep. Castor leads charge for House to vote today on the bipartisan Senate flood insurance bill

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor today pressed the House Republican leadership on the floor to allow an immediate vote on the bipartisan flood insurance bill that passed the Senate last week. The bill would provide an important delay to skyrocketing flood insurance rates and growing harm for homeowners across Tampa Bay and the country. It would also support our economic growth without roadblocks from Washington.

Rep. Castor has offered an amendment to every piece of legislation moving through the House over the past three months to bring relief to families from the unconscionable flood insurance rate increases. Today, she pushed for a vote to force the House to consider the bipartisan Senate bill that would delay increases on flood insurance premiums until FEMA can complete an affordability study and draw updated maps for flood hazard areas that are based on sound scientific and engineering methodologies. The move seemed to surprise Republicans and rallied a large number of Democratic members to the floor to call for action.
