This list reflects U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor’s grassroots experience. As an environmental lawyer and Hillsborough County Commissioner, Castor uses her grassroots knowledge and experience to continue to fight for Hillsborough, Pinellas and Manatee counties. She has worked on these issues directly with her neighbors: health care, education, the environment/energy independence and community/economic development.

    In the health care field, for example, Castor is advocating for projects like a program to assist active and National Guard service members with severe disabilities and emotional difficulties, a collaboration between the University of South Florida’s College of Nursing and the Haley VA Medical Center. She is also supporting education and children organizations in the Tampa Bay area, by advocating for the development of a new children's education center to promote scholastic performance and address critical social issues, the creation of the United Community Center Building to provide recreational, educational, mentoring, and crime prevention activities for youth and adult residents in Bradenton, the completion of the restoration of the Jordan Elementary School, a cultural landmark of the African-American Community in St. Petersburg, and enhancing low-income student performance in reading. Castor is also advocating for community/economic development projects like the rehabilitation of the Platt Street Bridge and the restoration of the Columbus Drive Bridge; and fighting for the environment/energy independence by requesting funding for mass transit projects for HART and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority.
