"It is an honor for me to dedicate this post office in Milton's name," said U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, a Democrat of Tampa. "This is a much-deserved recognition to a true leader of our community."
A post office in the southern part of the city was dedicated to the memory of a former NAACP leader and civil rights activist.
The facility, at 1750 16th St. S., was dedicated to Morris W. Milton, a lawyer who led the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People office in St. Petersburg for more than a decade. Milton was remembered as "a good and true civil rights leader" who "promoted equality for all and fought discrimination with the Pinellas County Public Schools." "It is an honor for me to dedicate this post office in Milton's name," said U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, a Democrat of Tampa. "This is a much-deserved recognition to a true leader of our community." Congressional approval is required to dedicate a post office in an individual's name. Milton's widow, Dorothy, joined friends, city officials and others at the ceremony. "The addition of this post office in midtown is one of the critical steps in making St. Petersburg a seamless city," Mayor Rick Baker said. |
