ST. PETERSBURG, FL – U.S. Rep. Castor (FL14) handed the Worrils family of three the keys to a new Habitat Home in South St. Petersburg constructed by Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties. Kierra Worrils is a dedicated single mother with a heart full of love for her two children, Da’Marieon (age 8) and Da’Sunni (age 4), and they will begin a new chapter in their family’s story in their new home. The Worrils family qualified for their newly constructed Habitat Home after completing the Habitat homeownership initiative, which consists of 32 homebuyer education classes and putting in between 350-450 sweat equity hours. Through the initiative, the family also earned a zero-interest mortgage that will ensure affordability throughout the life of their home loan. “When I asked Kierra what her favorite part of the home was, she said ‘everything’, and a home really is everything to a family”, said Rep. Castor. “I am grateful for the Pinellas & West Pasco Habitat for Humanity, as they are the busiest and most productive in the country, transforming the lives of those in Florida.” “It was not an easy road to get here, but it was worth it for my kids,” said Worrils. “I would not be here today if it wasn’t for my mom, who watched my kids as I completed the sweat-equity hours.” This home dedication kicks off four that Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties is hosting this week – one in St. Petersburg, two in New Port Richey and one in Dunedin. Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties completed 73 homes in the last fiscal year, and it is the No. 1 Habitat for Humanity out of 1,100 in the country for new home production.
