Rep. Castor Statement on Bipartisan Gun Violence Prevention Framework Agreement in Senate

“The Senate’s bipartisan agreement on gun violence prevention is an important step in protecting our children and keeping communities safe. There is much more to be done to save lives, but I am pleased that the Senate framework includes critical elements of the House’s work on gun violence prevention including implementing incentives for states to establish extreme risk protection order laws, an enhanced review process for gun-buyers under 21, and a provision to ban straw purchases – measures that will keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.

“Since taking the Majority in 2018, the House has acted with urgency to pass legislation to prevent gun violence in schools and on our streets. It is past time for the Senate to join us – I look forward to continuing to answer the call of Americans of all stripes to get military-style weapons off the streets and out of the hands of those who should not have them. In the days ahead, the eyes of our neighbors will be on Florida Republican Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott to see if they vote in the interests of our neighbors and children.”
