Castor Announces $91 million in Local Transit Funds from CARES Act

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) today announced $91,119,942 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) urbanized area funds for Tampa-St. Petersburg that were authorized by recently passed Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act, a $2 Trillion relief package passed by Congress, includes FTA direct funding to local entities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus through existing initiatives to expedite delivery of grants.

“Thousands of our neighbors here in the Tampa Bay area rely on public transportation, and it’s critical that we help our transit providers weather the impacts of COVID-19,” said Castor. “This funding will allow entities like HART to respond to the crisis and provide investments that are a shot in the arm of our local economy. I am glad to help speed much-needed aid to boost our economy and ensure lifeline transit services continue here in Tampa.”
