U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor fought to restore vital energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives that have been placed on the chopping block by House Republicans during the debate on the U.S. Department of Energy appropriations FY2016 bill. Debate on the Castor Amendment occurred late last night. Republicans propose to eliminate an initiative that among other things provides solar industry job training for veterans at more than 400 community colleges across the United States. Moreover, the Solar Ready Vets efforts would be put at risk by the cuts and its planned expansion from three to 10 military bases would be canceled if the Republican funding cuts are allowed to stand. Energy efficiency and renewable energy partnerships with industry, universities and laboratories create jobs and save consumers money on electric bills. Rep. Castor proposed to salvage many of these important and innovative collaborations. Despite U.S. Rep. Castor’s efforts, her commonsense amendment was defeated by House Republicans.Below is video of U.S. Rep. Castor’s remarks made yesterday on the House floor:
