Today, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL) issued the following statement regarding the House Republican Spending Bill: “Buried in the 1,600 pages of the House Republican spending bill is a provision that would put American taxpayers back on the hook for the risky behavior of Wall Street. The provision would repeal an important section of the Wall Street Reform law entitled, ‘PROHIBITION AGAINST FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BAILOUTS OF SWAPS ENTITIES.’ This special interest power grab at the end of the dysfunctional 113th Congress does not meet the smell test and puts America squarely in the same spot that led to the meltdown of America’s economy. Instead, I sided with American middle-class families, small businesses and all those who do not want to put America’s economy and its recovery at risk.” |
