Ray Dever’s father, Ray Dever Senior, passed away when he was in high school and he said father his didn’t talk much about his military service.
“That’s very typical,” Dever said of his father’s generation. Dever Senior joined the Navy in 1942, during World War II, and served aboard the U.S. William Biddle, an attack transport that participated in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. “It is unique to have served in both theaters,” U.S. Rep. Castor. Dever Junior thought so too. “Based on his service, I believe he should have been awarded at least medals,” he wrote to U.S. Rep. Castor in November, asking for help obtaining his father’s service records. After six months of research, today, U.S. Rep. Castor presented Dever Junior and his family with eight medals to posthumously honor his father, a WWII hero. “They are truly the greatest generation,” U.S. Rep. Castor said.
