Rep. Castor Statement on House Passage of Continuing Resolution
Washington,
December 2, 2021
“Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation to fund the government following months of Senate Republican obstruction and inaction. CRs are no way to govern, but today’s vote was necessary to avoid a needless government shutdown – caused by Congressional Republicans - that would harm Floridians and our ongoing economic recovery from Covid19 as Americans return to work in higher numbers and we look forward to the holidays. The Congressional GOP’s refusal to negotiate on a routine annual appropriations adversely impacts our armed forces’ ability to effectively and confidently plan for military operations, and throws a wrench into improving American economy. Today, I wrote Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell underscoring the harm that the GOP Senate’s obstruction will wreak on Florida families and the men and women who serve at MacDill Air Force Base and around the globe. “It is time for Senate Republicans to stop playing politics with the lives of our neighbors, increasing costs on families, and complicating the safety of our nation. Congressional Democrats and President Biden stand ready to work with them to make meaningful investments that create jobs, lower costs on consumers, strengthen our schools, protect our air and water and advance environmental justice, and much more.” Rep. Castor’s letter to Senate Minority Leader McConnell can be read here. |
