U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) sent a letter today to the Social Security Administration’s Acting Commissioner, Nancy Berryhill.  The letter points out the very serious delays in processing disability claims at the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) in Tampa, Fla.  Also in the letter, U.S. Rep. Castor called for a prompt review of the Tampa ODAR and a plan of action to improve this process so vital to many petitioning ODAR, and serve as our most vulnerable neighbors and least able to abide delays.  Read U.S. Rep. Castor’s letter here.

Social Security benefits belong to our neighbors and families, and barriers to access must be removed.  Since early in her tenure in Congress, U.S. Rep. Castor has worked to reduce the Social Security benefit backlog.  In 2008, she introduced the Timely Due Process for the Disabled Act to cut down the wait time for an appeal and successfully urged SSA to hire additional administrative law judges and support staff.
