U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor and the mayors of Tampa and St. Petersburg encourage Tampa Bay area residents on Wednesday to line the route to honor the life of Army Spc. Brittany Gordon as her body is escorted in a dignified transfer procession through Tampa and St. Petersburg. “Army Specialist Gordon made the ultimate sacrifice as she defended our country,” Castor said. “We grieve for her friends and family and must take the time as a community to salute her service and bravery. I encourage our community to line the route on Wednesday to show our patriotism and our respect. You can wave the flag, make a sign or simply take a moment to reflect.” Said St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster: "St. Petersburg lost one of its own last week when Army Spc. Brittany Gordon lost her life serving our country in Afghanistan. Brittany was an exemplary young woman who translated skills learned on the St. Petersburg High School basketball court into her military service - teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. As we keep Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon, mother Brenda and their family in our prayers, please come out and show your support for Brittany and our entire U.S. military family who sacrifice so much to keep us all safe." Said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn: "We should never forget the sacrifice of Brittany Gordon. She paid the ultimate price for the country she loved and for a community that loved her. She is coming home on Wednesday to her final resting place, and we are forever grateful for her time amongst us.” The honor escort is expected to leave the base at noon and follow the route below.
