Today, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released its analysis of the health insurance reform legislation, which showed significant cost savings through the next 20 years. Congresswoman Kathy Castor said the CBO score, which shows the biggest deficit reduction since 1993, is a strong indication that health insurance reform will help the economy and the deficit in both the short term and the long term.
“Robust deficit reduction and economic security for Florida families and small business owners will propel landmark health reform over the finish line. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirms that the deficit will be cut by $138 billion over the next decade with additional savings of more than $1.2 trillion in the next 10 years,” Castor said. Castor’s Energy and Commerce Committee also released specific data relating to the benefits for Florida families, seniors and business owners. Millions of Tampa Bay area families who currently have health insurance will benefit greatly by the new consumer protections. In Castor’s District 11 alone, more than 61,000 children will be eligible to remain on the parents insurance and close to 20,000 small business owners will be eligible for health insurance tax credits. |
