President Obama inherited a deficit that tops $1 trillion and an economic catastrophe the likes of which we have not seen in generations. Recovery will not happen overnight, but President Obama’s bold plan for economic recovery will put our economy back on track. The Recovery Act, foreclosure prevention plan and new access to affordable health care will stabilize the pocketbooks of Tampa Bay area families. Bolstering our economy and creating jobs will continue to be our top priorities.

President Obama is right to focus tonight on the economy, health care, education and energy. Improving access to affordable health care helps jump-start our economy and ensures that families do not have to resort to emergency rooms for primary care. Giving education the attention it needs means our children get a 21st century education and compete for higher wage jobs. Developing sound, green energy policies will have the benefit of righting our economy, saving our environment and promoting national security through energy independence. As President Obama said tonight, we are a hardworking, optimistic nation. We will persevere. The United States always has been a resilient country. We have conquered hard times before and we are on a path now to do it again. |
