Congresswoman Kathy Castor’s Statement On President Obama’s Housing Plan

“Responsible homeowners will have an opportunity to refinance. The thousands of Tampa Bay area families I have served at my foreclosure workshops have been looking for breathing room to stay in their homes and had trouble merely getting a lender on the phone. President Obama’s plan gives these responsible homeowners a fighting chance.

“The Homeowner Affordability and Stabilization Plan will stabilize property values throughout our Tampa Bay area neighborhoods. We will prevent foreclosures in our community and the downward spiral that affects us all,” Castor said. “President Obama’s bold and comprehensive plan will stabilize – and eventually increase – housing  values in our neighborhoods.”

Florida has the second-highest foreclosure rate in the nation, and Castor is dedicated to advocating for families who are faced with unresponsive lenders. Castor's fourth foreclosure assistance workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Middleton High. "We will act swiftly to implement the recovery plan and turn our economy around," Castor said.
