$34 Million on Track to MacDill AFB

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor announced today that Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa is on track to receive a $34 million investment for construction of a permanent Joint Special Operations University under the House’s VA/Military Construction Appropriations bill, which is scheduled for a vote this week. This substantial construction investment at MacDill will bring jobs and bolster the vital Special Operations mission.

Bilirakis, Castor Work to Save Clearwater Civil Support Team

U.S. Representatives Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) and Kathy Castor (FL-11) are working together to keep a Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team (CST) based in the Tampa Bay area. The Department of Defense has proposed a plan to eliminate just two teams in the United States, one in Clearwater and one in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn.

Castor Pushes for Funding for Air Force Base Infrastructure, Health Care Research

Congresswoman Kathy Castor successfully amended the National Defense Authorization Act to improve the prospects for local job creation as the House Armed Services Committee passed the bill out of committee early today. The Castor amendments provide additional funding for national air force base infrastructure and health care research that can be leveraged for MacDill Air Force Base, the University of South Florida, and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. Castor also authored a specific commendation to the Special Operations personnel for the successful and historic mission to bring Osama bin Laden to justice.
