Castor Tapped for Armed Services, Budget Committees

Congresswoman Kathy Castor has been tapped to serve on the Armed Services Committee and the Budget Committee in the new 112th Congress. Castor sought the Armed Services assignment to focus on local jobs related to MacDill Air Force Base and the brave men and women who serve our nation, veterans and their families. Castor also sought a seat on the Budget Committee to work on cutting our nation’s deficit, which many economists say is among the biggest threats facing our nation.

House Improves Post-9/11 GI Bill for Vets

Veterans will have more opportunities to pursue higher education as a result of a bill the U.S. House of Representatives passed today. The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2010, co-sponsored by Rep. Kathy Castor, will give those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars greater access and resources to our vocational and trade schools.

Stop-Loss Pay Deadline Extended

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor announced today that the deadline for veterans, military personnel and their beneficiaries to apply for retroactive supplemental pay has been extended to Dec. 3. The original deadline was Oct. 21.

Castor Urges Vets to File for Stop Loss Payments

U.S. Representative Kathy Castor urged local veterans, military personnel and beneficiaries of service members who were involuntarily extended on active duty between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009 to apply for retroactive supplemental pay by October 21, 2010. Thousands of veterans are eligible for these payments nationwide but many benefits have gone unclaimed. Castor called on the community to spread the word to ensure that military personnel and veterans receive the benefits they are due.

LANDMARK GI BILL SIGNED INTO LAW

Legislation that will expand the GI Bill of Rights was signed into law today, despite strenuous opposition by President Bush. Congresswoman Kathy Castor (D-FL) a co-sponsor of the legislation, joined Democratic sponsors Congressman Harry Mitchell and Senator Jim Webb in backing the legislation.

WWII Vet Gets Cluster Of Honors

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, helped Rosado obtain the Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and World War II Victory Medal, among others. The congressional office also secured several foreign honors, including the Belgian Fourragere, the Dutch Orange Lanyard and a Thank You America certificate from France.
