Rep. Castor Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of Affordable Care Act - Especially Important for Floridians

Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) released the below statement following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Republicans’ lawsuit, California v. Texas, to rip health coverage away from Americans and dismantle the entirety of the Affordable Care Act (ACA): “Thankfully, for all Americans, the Affordable Care Act is here to stay. The ACA ended discrimination for preexisting health conditions like cancer, diabetes and asthma and expanded affordable health coverage for more than 20 million Americans, and 2 million Floridians - more than any other state. Even now, the Sunshine State continues to lead the way in ACA signups during the current Special Enrollment Period established by President Biden. “In addition to protections for preexisting conditions, the ACA allowed children to stay on their parents’ plan to age 26 , strengthened Medicare, lowered prescription drug costs and eliminated copays for birth control. The ACA is a lifeline that has provided security to our neighbors over the past 11 years and during the coronavirus pandemic. “Republicans and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody should end their attempts to rip affordable coverage and consumer protections away from our neighbors once and for all. And Governor DeSantis and Florida Republicans should end their fiscally irresponsible and morally wrong bar to Medicaid expansion that leaves almost one million Floridians uninsured. Instead, let’s work together to lower costs, expand affordable coverage and strengthen the ACA in the days ahead. I am committed to doing just that.” |
