U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) released the below statement following the announcement that the U.S. Army has contracted with Turner Construction Company to build the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital Bed Tower:

“Veterans who receive health care at Tampa’s James A. Haley Veterans Hospital deserve the highest quality care available.  The new $148 million hospital bed tower will be a welcome addition and provide modern amenities for our veterans.  I have pressed for construction of a new bed tower at the Haley VA hospital for many years and will continue to watch the project closely to ensure that the Army Corps of Engineers stays on budget and on time.  Our veterans deserve and have earned the best of what our country has to offer and it is our duty to ensure they are honored as such.”

U.S. Rep. Castor is an ardent supporter of Tampa Bay’s veteran community, the largest in Florida with more than 100,000 veterans calling Hillsborough County home.  U.S. Rep. Castor also successfully advocated for the construction of the Tampa Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and expanded parking facilities to ensure our veterans receive the top-quality medical care they have earned when they return home.

The Haley VA bed tower looks to feature approximately 100 medical surgical single patient rooms and 40 intensive care unit beds, as well as assorted support, education and other service spaces. Construction is expected to be completed over the next 3-4 years.  James A. Haley Veterans Hospital is one of the busiest Veterans Hospitals in the nation, serving over 90,000 veterans every year.
