U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor released the following statement today upon the passing of Dottie Berger MacKinnon:

"Dottie Berger MacKinnon was a selfless leader for our community. Her charitable heart and passion for children and her neighbors led her to serve in many capacities for the betterment of Tampa Bay, including the Hillsborough County Commission and more than a decade on Tampa General Hospital's Board of Directors. She was driven to find real solutions for children in crisis and founded the Joshua House and Kids Charity of Tampa Bay, which through its initiatives such as A Kid's Place has helped thousands of our most vulnerable children and has become a national model. Dottie has inspired and led many of our local champions for children, and her legacy will live through the work they continue to carry forward. I hope Sandy and Dottie's family are comforted by the love and respect our community has for Dottie's life of service."
