U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL) today applauded the announcement of an effort to launch high-speed ferry service to link job centers across Tampa Bay, including MacDill Air Force Base. "Tampa Bay commuters are eager for more transit and travel alternatives, and I am especially pleased this proposed service could benefit thousands of our military members and their families who commute daily to MacDill Air Force Base, while taking cars off the road and relieving congestion in South County and South Tampa. I am particularly supportive of investments that create jobs and boost innovative transportation options for people across Tampa Bay.” Rep. Castor spearheaded the original feasibility study for a potential Tampa Bay waterbourne transit system, which received federal funding in 2009 and was completed in 2011. HMS Global Maritime, a private marine management company, today announced its plans to develop such a waterbourne transit option.
