Dear friend, Friday was Reproductive Freedom Day of Action and as your voice in Congress, I am continuing to fight the extreme MAGA Republicans who are trying to criminalize women’s personal, private health care decisions. Democrats are committed to fighting to ensure women can make their own health care decisions that are best for them. Instead of working for everyday Americans, extreme MAGA Republicans are focused on locking up doctors and nurses and stripping women of reproductive care, including abortion services and birth control.  This week, I participated in a roundtable discussion with health care providers on the state of women’s health care in Florida following the state’s implementation of significant restrictions on women’s access to comprehensive reproductive health care. It was clear from our conversation that the state’s new restrictions, forced on Floridians by Gov. DeSantis, have created fear, uncertainty and confusion for women and health care providers across our state. I know abortion care and birth control are essential health care services, and I will not stop fighting for women and their full reproductive health care freedoms in Florida and across the country.
Representative Kathy Castor

Dear friend,

Friday was Reproductive Freedom Day of Action and as your voice in Congress, I am continuing to fight the extreme MAGA Republicans who are trying to criminalize women’s personal, private health care decisions.

WEEKLY EVENT WRAP-UP

JABIL

I toured Jabil, a manufacturing hub in St. Petersburg that is bringing good-paying jobs to our neighbors while also strengthening our national security and bolstering our resilience to extreme weather. The historic CHIPS and Science Act will assist Jabil in furthering its competitive edge as a global leader in technology development. They are a testament to how President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda works.

GRACE

I was honored to be named a Health Care Champion by my partner, Gracepoint! The health care providers at Gracepoint are on the frontlines of delivering our communities the affordable, quality care they need and deserve. In FY22, I championed $2 million in community project funding for a new facility to advance their efforts in providing women with expanded behavioral and mental health services, created by women – for women. With their critical work, we are lowering health care costs and creating healthy communities.

SHRIMP

I joined Bama Sea Products and University of South Florida marine scientists to discuss my new bipartisan legislation, the Laws Ensuring Safe Shrimp (LESS) Act! Touring the Bama Sea Products facility was shrimply the best! As the largest distributor of shrimp to the U.S. Military, my legislation would protect and strengthen gulf shrimping industry jobs, like Bama Sea Products, that is family-owned and operated. Americans deserve to consume shrimp free of antibiotic residue while also benefiting from the local economic profits shrimping industries bring to FL14.

Kevin

I met with Pinellas County Schools Superintendent, Kevin Hendrick to hear about how the beginning of the 2023-2034 academic year is going and spread the word about important opportunities my office has for middle and high school students! My Service Academy event and Congressional App Challenge are quickly approaching! Click here for the Service Academy nomination application and here for instructions for the Congressional App Challenge.

EDGEMOOR

I visited with neighbors in Egdemoor, St. Petersburg to view the impacts of storm water flooding. As extreme weather events occur more regularly, communities are struggling to grapple with the impacts of localized flooding. I am working to secure federal funding for St. Petersburg to bolster the stormwater system capacity, alleviate flooding and reduce the risk of property damage.

flaseia

I was joined by experts with the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association (FlaSEIA) for an Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) workshop to educate local businesses, nonprofits, houses of worship and others on the significant savings for clean energy upgrades passed in the IRA.
