Rep. Castor Statement on President Biden’s Historic Build Back Better Framework

Castor is leading the charge for largest clean energy and infrastructure investment in history, expanding Medicaid, and boosting American workers and families

“The Build Back Better Act will put our nation and our neighbors on a stronger, more prosperous path as we recover and rebuild from the Covid19 pandemic. As we Build Back Better, we will lift all of our neighbors by investing in families, our children, and our environment to lower costs for consumers, create family-sustaining jobs and grow our economy. This means providing universal, free preschool to 3 and 4-year-olds, expanding Medicaid to nearly 1 million Floridians, making the single largest and most comprehensive investment in affordable housing in history, extending the Earned Income Tax Credit for 17 million American workers and much more.

“In Florida, rising temperatures have escalated into a code-red moment for our way of life as we face fiercer storms, rising tides and higher costs due to climate change. Here’s what we’ll do: we are going to deliver the largest investment in clean energy and resilience in our nation’s history through the Build Back Better Act. Solving the climate crisis provides an incredible opportunity to grow good-paying jobs, lower costs for consumers and improve the air we breathe.

“Florida’s failure to expand Medicaid has cost our state billions of dollars while leaving almost 1 million of our neighbors without health care coverage.  I am proud that we are taking action to reduce health inequalities and providing meaningful health care coverage with $0 premiums, finally making health care affordable and accessible. And we will do it through the Affordable Care Act that is popular across our state.

“I am especially inspired to see large investments in children and families through high quality universal Pre-K and child care. UPK will give children a strong start in life and put them on a path to succeed in school and in life.  More affordable child care will help women return to the workforce at a critical time as well.”

“We promised to work with the president to Build Back Better for ALL Americans, and this framework does just that. We are only getting started.”
