This morning, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) participated in the launch of the Cross-Bay Ferry and released the following statement:

“The Cross-Bay Ferry has great potential to connect our neighbors to jobs, events and attractions. Cross-Bay Ferry service also would provide an important new transit option to a growing and vibrant urban area. We cannot rely on cars alone in the future.

“In 2009, I secured $485,000 for a feasibility study for ferry service through a U.S. DOT grant. In 2014, we built on that investment with another $4.8 million federal grant for ferry service to expand transportation options for Tampa Bay, grow jobs and remain competitive. I am hopeful that with the foresight and leadership of St. Petersburg Mayor Kriseman, Hillsborough County and other local leaders, we can put these funds to work before they expire in 2019.

“Tampa Bay commuters are eager for more transportation alternatives, and I will continue to champion these investments which bring about higher-paying jobs for our community and keep Tampa Bay moving.”
