Dear friend,Congress is diligently at work on important year end matters after one of the most productive sessions of Congress in history. I am working to finalize legislation that will support local priorities – our families, our troops, small businesses and more. This week, inspired in part by friends lost to lung cancer and the important work of Tampa’s Moffitt Cancer Center, I introduced the Increasing Access to Lung Cancer Screening Act. Lung cancer kills too many Americans each year due in part to late-stage diagnoses. In Florida, only 3% of those eligible for lung cancer screenings were screened in 2021. In order to boost that statistic and save lives, my bill will help increase access to screenings and preventive services. Fortunately for our neighbors, Moffitt Cancer Center, one of the nation’s premier cancer research institutes, is at the forefront of cancer prevention and working to remove barriers to ensure that all Americans have access to lifesaving screenings and health care. Together, we are committed to saving tens of thousands of lives lost to lung cancer each year through outreach and early detection like lung screenings. We are working to lower costs: health insurance premiums are very affordable, so if you need a new plan check out www.healthcare.gov during open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act through December 15th. Look for a plan that works best for you and your family. Coverage may be more affordable than you think! If you have questions or don’t know where to start, our independent health care Navigators at Covering Florida are standing by and ready to help you, free of cost. Dear friend,

Congress is diligently at work on important year end matters after one of the most productive sessions of Congress in history. I am working to finalize legislation that will support local priorities – our families, our troops, small businesses and more.

VOTES THIS WEEK

entry

H.R. 3372, the One Stop Shop Community Reentry Program Act is a bipartisan bill that would create resource centers to support people transitioning from incarceration and connect them with the services they need to reintegrate into their communities.

railway

H.J. Res. 100, the Railway Labor Tentative Agreement will protect the financial security of America’s working families and avert a devastating national rail shutdown. The Tentative Agreement secures important advances for workers, including a raise, time off for routine, preventative and emergency medical care and protections for the two-man crew. Under H. Con. Res. 119 to modify H.J. Res. 100, the House voted to provide freight railroad workers seven days of paid sick leave. Without paid sick time, railroad workers are forced to make a choice between their health and their paychecks.

women custody

H.R. 6878, the Pregnant Women in Custody Act is a bipartisan bill that would provide a national standard of care to address pregnancy-related needs of incarcerated women during pregnancy, labor, delivery and post-partum periods.

ctc

H.R. 8876, Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act of 2022: Congress must take every action possible to lift our neighbors. I’m a proud original cosponsor of this bill that will continue to safely provide the home services and tangible resources that families in Tampa and around the nation depend on. MIECHV gives kids and families in Tampa a better chance of success in life, and it’s vital that we continue to support it so that Tampa’s Healthy Start Coalition and others can continue to improve maternal and child health in our community.

2022 MILITARY ACADEMY NOMINEES

Receiving a nomination to one of our nation’s military academies is an essential step towards receiving an appointment to the academies – providing these nominations is a critical part of my job as the Tampa Bay area’s voice in the Congress. Nominations are earned based upon each student’s interview with my Nomination Committee, their academic record, participation in extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership qualities.

The 21 talented student leaders nominated this year are critical to the future of America. Their commitment to serving our country will make our patriotic Tampa Bay community proud. I am grateful for the service of my dedicated Nomination Committee that thoroughly reviews each application and meets with interested students. I know that this year’s nominees will represent Tampa Bay and America well in all that the future holds for them.

Check out this year’s nominees here.

Enjoy your weekend and know that my office is here to help at 813-871-2817.

Sincerely,
Kathy Castor Signature
