My Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing entitled, "Pathway to a Vaccine: Ensuring a Safe and Effective Vaccine People Will Trust.” It’s critical for our neighbors to have faith in the COVID-19 vaccine and that our local government knows its role in distribution. It will take all of us working together to ensure the safe and efficient distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine once its available. By the way, I had my flu shot this week, and you should get yours ASAP.

On Thursday, my Select Committee on the Climate Crisis held a hearing entitled, “Creating a Climate Resilient America: Strengthening the U.S. Financial System and Expanding Economic Opportunity.” This timely hearing explored the ways that the climate crisis exacerbates economic harm and injustice, and identify strategies to strengthen financial systems and enhance access to capital to support community resilience and economic recovery.

H.R. 4996 – Helping MOMS Act of 2020: The bipartisan Helping MOMS Act passed the House this week! As a member of the Black Maternal Health Caucus in Congress, I know we must do more to reduce maternal mortality, address systemic racism and end racial disparities in maternal health. It’s a critical step forward for health of all of our moms and babies.

H.R. 2468 – School-Based Allergies and Asthma Management Program Act: This bill that I cosponsor was passed by the House Tuesday and would ensure schools are prepared to manage asthma and peanut allergies. This legislation would help to reduce school absenteeism, of which we know asthma is a leading cause.

H.R. 6270 –  Uyghur Forced Labor Disclosure Act of 2020: American companies should not be complicit in China’s horrific abuse of its Muslim minorities. This legislation will help shine a light on these inhumane practices and provide needed transparency for investors and ensure consumers know when their purchases have been tainted by forced labor.

H.Res. 1153 – Condemning unwanted, unnecessary medical procedures on individuals without their full, informed consent: this resolution urgently condemns the medical procedures—including partial and full hysterectomies —performed on immigrant women without their full, informed consent at a private, for-profit  detention center. It also calls on the Department of Homeland Security to take a series of specific actions including immediately complying with all related investigations.  

H.Res. 1154 – Condemning QAnon and rejecting the conspiracy theories it promotes: This bipartisan resolution codemns the QAnon conspiracy movement that is actively working to undermine public trust in America’s democratic institutions and influence US elections.
