Dear Friend,
The Lightning are Stanley Cup Champions! This is some much-needed good news, and a testament to teamwork and determination. Congrats … and now Rays, it’s your turn.
The House passed an updated COVID-19 relief package (Heroes Act) last night to address the ongoing health and economic crises facing working families. After passing the first Heroes Act in May, I hope the GOP-controlled Senate will not sit on the sidelines any longer and watch folks struggle.
The updated Heroes Act would provide a second round of direct cash assistance, restore the federal unemployment benefit through January, provide funding for public schools and local communities so they do not have to furlough teachers and other frontline workers, improve the Paycheck Protection Program to deliver targeted assistance to our hard-hit small businesses and the restaurant and live event industries, provide funds for rental assistance, child care, and much more. In addition, our bill contains a comprehensive plan to control the virus, so we can get back to work and school safely.
You can read more on this legislation here. This proffer is an attempt to ensure we serve the American people’s immediate needs while we attempt to get Trump and Republican Senate leaders to negotiate and answer the call to aid Americans during this public health and economic crisis.
