Dear friend,
Democrats are doing all we can to keep the economy on track and lower the cost of living for our neighbors, but House Republicans are making it tough by threatening to default on America’s bills. Speaker McCarthy’s reckless Default on America Act increases the odds of a recession and is projected to cost 780,000 jobs. If extreme MAGA Republicans default on our debt, the economic disaster will hurt everyday Americans. It would force layoffs for hundreds of thousands of teachers and first responders. It would and rip food, housing and health support away from families and seniors. It will gut newly available clean energy tax credits to lower cost of energy for families and businesses. slash health care for veterans. I voted NO to protect Floridians from the extremist MAGA agenda. It does not have to be this way. We can lower the debt and deficit like we did under the Inflation Reduction Act and keep our economy on track.
See the impact of Republicans' extreme demands and their default threats on FL14 here.

On Wednesday, the Environment Subcommittee hearing examined the incredible work under the Inflation Reduction Act to speed up the transition to cleaner, cheaper energy sources. It is disappointing that Republicans’ Default on America plan would slash the discounts and initiatives that are increasing domestic production of clean energy. The Inflation Reduction Act has generated over 142,000 jobs and over $240 billion in new investment in American communities. I am committed to ensuring that the “Made in the USA” momentum continues. On Thursday, my Innovation, Data and Commerce Committee examined the shortcomings of American data privacy. It is urgent that the Congress pass a comprehensive data privacy law that protects the personal privacy of Americans, especially our kids. I reintroduced the KIDS PRIVACY Act last week to ensure tech platforms build privacy and safety in kid-directed products during their design. Parents are sounding the alarm, and it’s past time that Congress comes together to update privacy laws. My Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee held two hearings this week on public health and biosafety. I am committed to ensuring that we’re advancing science and research so that we can better protect Americans from disease, achieve scientific breakthroughs, and continue to lead the world in innovation and discovery.

I voted NO on H.R. 2811, Republicans’ Default on America Act. Thankfully, this harmful legislation is dead on arrival once it reaches the Senate.

I voted no on H.J. Res. 39, an effort to overturn a rule that supports solar production, manufacturing and installation in the United States. Cleaner energy is cheaper energy, and we are working through the Inflation Reduction Act to grow solar manufacturing in the United States. While we ramp up domestic production, it’s crucial that we allow for solar imports in order to keep up our transition to cleaner energy and to keep our neighbors who work in the solar industry working.

H.Con.Res. 30 – Directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove all United States Armed Forces, other than United States Armed Forces assigned to protect the United States Embassy, from Somalia – I voted no on this broad and under inclusive resolution.
