Dear friend,  The U.S. Supreme Court’s devastating decision to overturn Roe v. Wade one year ago and strip away a fifty-year-old constitutional right weighs heavily on me this week. The radical ruling triggered an avalanche of abortion bans and laws that turn women and their doctors into criminals - it’s outrageous. Instead of finding common ground to boost the economy or lower costs, Republicans in Congress are threatening our individual rights and want the government to interfere in our private lives. They want to criminalize all abortions without exceptions, even in cases of rape or incest, and want to pass an extreme national ban on abortion that could send doctors to jail. That’s why I’m cosponsoring the Women’s Health Projection Act, to codify Roe, and fight off attempts to limit the contraceptives and medication we need.

Dear friend,

VOTES THIS WEEK

This week, extreme MAGA Republicans made a circus of the House floor, doing nothing on what matters to our neighbors at home. I voted NO on H.Res. 529, legislation aiming to impeach Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States. I also voted NO on

H.Res. 521 to censure Representative Adam Schiff who is an outstanding public servant and led the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

H.Res. 461 – I voted NO on condemning the use of elementary and secondary school facilities to provide shelter for undocumented immigrants not admitted to the United States.

H.R. 3799 – I voted NO on the CHOICE Arrangement Act because it is important to ensure that patients with preexisting conditions can obtain affordable insurance and be prioritized over large corporations and insurance companies. Republicans are still trying to chip away at the Affordable Care Act.

CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH

Monday I celebrated and honored Juneteenth by announcing $298,347 being awarded to the Woodson African American Museum of Florida in St. Petersburg through the Museum Grants for African American History and Culture (AAHC) from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Black history is all of our history. I am ecstatic that the Woodson African American Museum has received this funding to continue to be a pillar of education and culture throughout the St. Petersburg community and those who visit Florida.
