Dear friend,  President Biden shared a message of hope and strength in the State of the Union address last night. Together, we’ve made historic progress in lowering the cost of health care, caring for veterans and clean energy jobs. Smart policies championed by Democrats and President Biden have created huge job growth and put money in Americans’ pocketbooks, but challenges remain. This moment in history requires a commitment to protect our freedoms and to stand up to extremists. It’s a “People Over Politics” moment where we do more to lower costs, set aside political games, and defend democracy.
Representative Kathy Castor

Dear friend,

President Biden shared a message of hope and strength in the State of the Union address last night.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING, JOBS & CLEAN ENERGY PROJECTS COMING TO THE TAMPA BAY AREA

After months of chaos in GOP ranks over annual appropriations, Democrats prevailed on important policy priorities like combating inflation; safeguarding the environment; ensuring veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned; providing an increase for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) assistance; and fully funding nutrition assistance for children and families who need it.

As the Tampa Bay area grows, I am working on projects and solutions that address our toughest problems, such as keeping pollution out of Tampa Bay, tackling housing affordability, and using solar power to lower electric bills. You can count on me to stand up for a stronger, healthier, more prosperous Tampa Bay area. My team and I work every day with local partners to make life better for our neighbors, and I couldn’t be more proud of our collaborative efforts. Read about all the projects that were funded here.

VOTES LAST WEEK

H.R.3838 - Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act - Mothers in the United States are significantly more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than women in other high-income countries – and Black women are three times more likely to die than other races. I am proud that my legislation was passed to bolster the health of women and babies in the United States.

H.R. 7511 – Laken Riley Act – House Republicans have shamelessly used a horrible tragedy for political gain instead of working in a bipartisan way to actually address the challenges at the Southern Border. House Republicans are blocking desperately needed reforms and resources for purely political purposes.

H.R. 2799 - The "Expanding Access to Fraud Act" – This legislation significantly harms investor confidence and protections in our capital markets by removing many transparency, accountability and legal requirements that companies owe to their investors. It enables more hedge funds and private equity companies to hide investments that threaten U.S. national security and harm the American dream of homeownership and other aspects of our economy.

As always, you can call my office at (813) 871-2817 or (727) 369-0201.

I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

lc
