Speaker Pelosi Announces Rep. Escobar Will Join Select Committee on the Climate Crisis
WASHINGTON - On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Rep. Veronica Escobar (TX-16) will join the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis during the 117th Congress.
Select Committee Chair Kathy Castor released the following statement:
“Congresswoman Escobar is a steadfast climate champion whose vision for clean energy innovation will help us create jobs, reduce pollution, and expand opportunities for Black, Brown, and tribal communities,” said Chair Castor. “Her leadership is vital to ensuring our military has the tools necessary to protect America, and her push for solar energy research and development will benefit workers in Texas and across the country. I'm proud to welcome Congresswoman Escobar to the Select Committee. She is a leader in the Congress and is poised to lift working families as we solve the climate crisis.”
The Speaker also confirmed the returning Members of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis are:

- Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici of Oregon
- Congresswoman Julia Brownley of California
- Congressman Sean Casten of Illinois
- Congressman Jared Huffman of California
- Congressman Mike Levin of California
- Congressman A. Donald McEachin of Virginia
- Congressman Joe Neguse of Colorado

During the 116th Congress, the Democratic members and staff of the Select Committee unveiled the Climate Crisis Action Plan, titled “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America.” The report lays out detailed climate solutions that Congress should enact to benefit American families in communities across the nation. It calls on Congress to:
- Grow Our Economy and Put Americans Back to Work in Clean Energy Jobs
- Protect the Health of All Families
- Make Sure Our Communities and Farmers Can Withstand the Impacts of Climate Change
- Protect America’s Land and Waters for the Next Generation
