Rep. Castor Welcomes New Climate Action Principles from Unions and Green Groups
WASHINGTON (June 24, 2019) - Earlier today, The Blue Green Alliance, a coalition of unions and environmental groups, released a set of principles for climate action. Below is a statement by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14), Chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis:
"Good-paying American jobs go hand-in-hand with solutions to the climate crisis. The labor movement and the environmental movement know this and are right to press for action. Their principles will guide our work here in Congress.
"We need policies that work for the people and the planet. That means rejecting the idea that we have to choose between clean air and good jobs. I agree with The Blue Green Alliance – we can choose both. Good policy starts with respecting the hard work union members are doing across the country to support their communities and the economy. We know we need to invest in new infrastructure, new industries and new technology, but first and foremost we need to invest in America's workers.”
