Rep. Castor Calls on Senate to Pass New Companion Bill to Climate Action Now Act

WASHINGTON (June 6, 2019) – More than 40 Senators introduced the International Climate Accountability Act today, a companion bill to H.R. 9, the House-passed Climate Action Now Act, which would prevent the Trump administration from abandoning the Paris climate agreement.
 
Below is a statement from Rep. Kathy Castor (FL), the sponsor of the House bill and chair of the U.S. House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis:

“Americans don’t cut and run – we don’t retreat – and we remain as committed as ever to climate action. That starts with the Paris climate agreement. If America leads on climate action, the rest of the world will follow. 
 
“When we passed this bill in the House, I was thrilled to see some of my Republican colleagues join Democrats in voting for the bill. Republican Senators should do the same and urge Senator Mitch McConnell to allow a debate and a vote. Republican senators have put aside partisanship on foreign policy before. Plus, many of their states are struggling with climate-related disasters. So this is the perfect time to demonstrate leadership to the world and our great country. We keep hearing that Republicans are changing their tune on the climate crisis, but now’s the time for them to turn their song and dance into action and actually vote for climate legislation.
