Climate Crisis Committee to Hold Hearing on Lowering Costs, Creating Jobs, Reducing Pollution with Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON - The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis will hold a hearing titled “A Big Climate Deal: Lowering Costs, Creating Jobs, and Reducing Pollution with the Inflation Reduction Act” on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The hybrid hearing will be held in Room 210 of the Cannon House Office Building and via Zoom video conferencing. It will be broadcast live here.

This hearing will examine how the climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act will help lower electric and fuel bills for American families, create jobs, and expand investments in U.S. manufacturing of clean energy, clean vehicles, and climate solutions.  

The committee will receive testimony from:

Josh Nassar, Legislative Director, International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers (UAW). At UAW, Nassar leads the team responsible for implementing the union's policy agenda, as well as designing legislative strategy on labor, trade, environment, health care, defense, energy, tax policy and other issues. 

Dr. Quinta Warren, Associate Director of Sustainability Policy, Consumer Reports. Prior to leading sustainability efforts at Consumer Reports, Dr. Warren founded Energy Research Consulting, a firm that provides technical and sustainable expertise on energy and water to entrepreneurial ventures in Africa. She also served as an AAAS fellow in the Department of Energy to manage domestic and international policy around carbon management and power generation.

Samantha Sloan, Vice President of Global Policy, Sustainability and Marketing, First Solar, Inc. Sloan leads policy and sustainability efforts at First Solar, an American solar technology company that produces eco-efficient solar modules. Founded in 1999, First Solar has invested $2.8 billion in its three-factory Ohio footprint and will invest an additional $1.2 billion in expanding its annual U.S. manufacturing capacity to over 10 gigawatts by 2025.

Philip Rossetti, Senior Fellow for Energy & Environment, R Street Institute. Rossetti conducts research on energy, climate, and environmental policy at R Street Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public policy research organization.
