Climate Crisis Committee to Hold Hearing on Business Perspectives on Climate Action

WASHINGTON - The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis will hold a hybrid hearing titled “Good For Business: Private Sector Perspectives on Climate Action” on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. ET. The hearing will take place in Room 210 of the Cannon House Office Building and via Zoom video conferencing. It will be broadcast live here.

The hearing will review business and private sector perspectives on the importance of investments in climate action currently being debated in Congress and how they would contribute to job creation and economic growth.

The committee will receive testimony from:

Gilbert Campbell, Founder and CEO, Volt Energy Utility. Campbell is a nationally recognized leader in clean energy and climate change equity. He co-founded Volt Energy, a minority-owned and operated clean energy company. He was named to EBONY magazine's 2014 Power 100 List and received the White House Champions of Change Award from President Obama for his advocacy promoting inclusion in the clean energy sector and providing STEM education opportunities for young people across the country.

Corley Kenna, Head of Communications and Policy, Patagonia. Kenna leads Communications and Policy at Patagonia, a clothing company recognized for its commitment to climate action and sustainable business practices. She is responsible for the advancement of policy issues related to the company’s business and advocacy priorities. Kenna also leads the company’s environmental activism campaigns and advancement of responsible business practices.

David Edsey, Climate Director, Technical Underwriting, Zurich North America. Edsey leads the development of insurance and service solutions to address climate change mitigation and adaptation at Zurich North America. He is an expert in climate change risk, mitigation, and resiliency strategies with over 25 years of experience in insurance and litigation.

Mark W. Menezes, Former Deputy Secretary of Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Former Chief Counsel for Energy and Environment, U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee. At the Department of Energy, Menezes was responsible for coordinating the planning and development of energy solutions. Before working for the Energy & Commerce Committee, he was Vice President and Associate General Counsel for American Electric Power, an electric utility serving 11 states.
