Press Release
White House Proposal Would Exempt Certain Projects From Environmental Review And Weaken Protections For American Families

Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL)

WASHINGTON (January 9, 2020) - On Thursday, Chair Kathy Castor (D-FL) of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis released the following statement, upon the announcement of a White House proposal that would weaken the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act:

"The Trump administration is once again siding with polluters and their profits at the expense of our kids and families," said Chair Castor. "The rule changes proposed by the White House today brazenly ignore the climate impacts to America’s infrastructure and saddle hardworking Americans and communities with huge costs. If we are to solve the climate crisis, we cannot cut corners. This is not the time to weaken America's most important citizen engagement and environmental protection law."
