Chair Castor: Trump Turns His Back On American Innovation, Continues To Ignore Climate Crisis With Budget Proposal

Press Release

WASHINGTON (February 10, 2020) - On Monday, Chair Kathy Castor (D-FL) of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis released the following statement in reaction to President Trump’s FY2021 budget proposal:

“By the looks of his proposed budget, President Trump wants to sideline American innovation while continuing to ignore the climate crisis. By discouraging investments in clean energy and eliminating necessary clean air and water protections, President Trump is proposing to make the climate crisis worse, not better,” said Chair Castor. “This budget proposal is further proof that the Trump administration will keep putting polluters and their profits over the health of the American people.”

Background: President Donald Trump’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2021 would eliminate the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy; slash the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy program by $2.1 billion; and eliminate NOAA’s Climate Competitive Research program. It also includes cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture.
