Press Release

(November 12, 2019) - On Monday, the New York Times reported that the Trump administration will try to significantly limit the science used by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to write public health rules, effectively making it more difficult for the agency to enact new clean air and water protections.

In response, Rep. Kathy Castor, chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, released the following statement on Tuesday:

“The Trump administration is once again putting the profits of corporate polluters over the health of millions of Americans. Sound science is fundamental to our nation’s environmental protections, the air we breathe and the water we drink. President Trump proposes to bury the science we rely on and, in doing so, undermines the health of American families and our children’s future.

“Science has guided the work of the Environmental Protection Agency since it was created half a century ago. This rule is a shameful attempt by EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist, to elevate profits and pollution over science and public health.”
