Chair Castor Statement on the Passing of Rep. Donald McEachin
WASHINGTON (November 29, 2022) – On Tuesday, Chair Kathy Castor released the following statement upon the passing of Rep. Donald McEachin, a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis:
“Representative Don McEachin served with honor, distinction, and a profound commitment to environmental justice,” said Chair Castor. “That included his work in our Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, where he fought to reduce pollution and secure clean air and water for every American, especially those living in communities disproportionately harmed by the climate crisis. For his Select Committee colleagues, he was a guiding light and shined the way on a path towards equity and smart policy to remedy the burden of pollution on people’s lives.
“Along with Congressman Grijalva, he led a historic movement in Congress to bring new voices into the process of policymaking, listening to the needs of communities of color, Tribes, low-income communities, and other vulnerable Americans. This movement brought us the community-led Environmental Justice For All Act, a comprehensive bill that would strengthen environmental safeguards for these communities and make sure they reap the benefits of the clean energy economy. I urge the House of Representatives to pass the EJ For All Act before the end of this Congress as we honor Donald's legacy.
“We lift up his family, staff, constituents, and friends - and pray that his life of service to others and the love and respect we have for Donald is a comfort to those who will miss him and are saddened by his passing.”
