International Climate Challenges and Opportunities
At 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis will hold a hearing titled “International Climate Challenges and Opportunities.” The hybrid hearing will be held in Room 210 of the Cannon House Office Building and via Zoom video conferencing.

The hearing will explore the challenges and opportunities for international climate action as world leaders prepare to gather in Glasgow, Scotland, for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

The committee will receive testimony from:
Tjada D’Oyen McKenna, CEO, Mercy Corps. McKenna leads a team of over 5,600 at Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization that reaches 37 million people in over 40 countries. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer at the international humanitarian organization CARE and as Chief Operating Officer at Habitat for Humanity. During the Obama Administration, McKenna was also the Assistant to the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Food Security.
Taryn Fransen, Senior Fellow, World Resources Institute. An international climate change policy expert, she works on long-term climate strategies and Nationally Determined Contributions. Fransen previously served as Senior Policy Advisor on the Global Climate Action Summit for the Office of the Governor of California. Fransen was also a lead author on the United Nations Environment Programme Emissions Gap Report.

Alden Meyer, Senior Associate, E3G. Meyer is an expert on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Paris Agreement, and other aspects of international climate policy. He has over four decades of experience in climate issues and previously served as director of strategy and policy for the Union of Concerned Scientists. Before joining the Union of Concerned Scientists, Meyer was the executive director of the League of Conservation Voters.

Charles Hernick, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum. A climate and energy expert, Hernick leads CRES Forum’s policy work. He previously advised officials at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Agency for International Development.
